    FBI UCR: Juvenile Arrests

The following data is from the FBI Uniform Crime Report as published by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Easy Access to FBI Arrest Statistics. (A great resource on juvenile statistics is the OJJDP Statistical Briefing Book which includes:

    • Easy Access to Juvenile Populations
    • Easy Access to the FBI’s Supplementary Homicide Reports
    • Easy Access to State and County Juvenile Court Case Counts
    • Easy Access to the Census of Juveniles in Residential Placement
    • Juvenile court Statistics

The table below presents juvenile arrests for crimes, including drug arrests, for the indicated year.

In many jurisdictions, data reported to the FBI are incomplete. The lower the coverage indicator, the greater the likelihood that the estimates do not accurately reflect the arrest activities of the jurisdiction. Although the IPRC does provide the data reported by all Indiana counties, the reliability of that data is suspect for those counties with less than 90% coverage and must be used with caution. For this reason the OJJDP NCJRS web site of “Easy Access to FBI Arrest Statistics” only provides data for counties/jurisdictions with a coverage indicator at or above 90% [the exception to this rule is that national estimates are always presented]. IPRC Tables with FBI UCR data:

Easy Access to FBI Arrest Statistics (EZAUCR -- http://ojjdp.gov/ojstatbb/ezaucr/asp/ucr_display.asp) presents arrest statistics at the national, state, and county level. Arrest statistics are presented for 29 detailed offense categories, including drug offenses. Users can select displays based on counts or rates for juveniles, adults, or all ages combined. Only data from jurisdictions that have coverage rates of 90-100% are considered reliable and are reported. Jurisdictions with less than 90-100% coverage are considered unreliable and are therefore not reported. The site includes sections on data coverage, Use the following links to obtain information on data coverage, methods, arrest stats, and data dictionary:

Use the following link (http://ojjdp.gov/ojstatbb/ezaucr/asp/coverage.asp) to find out what jurisdictions within a particular state have reported data of sufficient quality (i.e., a coverage indicator at or above 90%) to be deemed reliable by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice. Jurisdictions that meet this criterion are presented in bold. Use the pull down menu provided on the web site link above to select your area of interest.
